Welcome to Boy Scout Troop 511!

Welcome to Boy Scout Troop 511's web site. Boy Scout Troop 511 in Austin TX is sponsored by St. Matthew's Episcopal Church, and was founded in 1972. Over the years, we have had more than 170 young men become Eagle Scouts. We have a lovely outdoor program, including about 10 outdoor outings a year, summer camp and a high adventure trip for older Scouts.

If you're interested in our troop, we encourage you to come visit us at one of our meetings! We meet every Tuesday at 7:00 p.m. in Huffman Hall on the St. Matthew's Episcopal Church campus. We love to have guests any time. Some meetings are more interesting for visitors to come to, so feel free to contact us if you're wondering which meeting would be best for you to come and check out Troop 511.

You can also request more information or sign up online!

Posted on Apr 9 2026 - 7:43am

Summer Camp is right around the corner, and class registration opens next Wednesday! If you have not already rsvp'd on the troop website, please do so ASAP! We are holding spots for two more scouts, but we will release them on Monday if no one else rsvps here on the troop website by then. If you have already rsvp'd on the troop website, please review the following and try to complete as soon as possible. ASM John Curry is able to track your progress and will start nagging if he doesn't see anything by Sunday. Sorry in advance!

Help Us Be Prepared! Take Scouting's Hazardous Weather Course!

Posted on Apr 9 2026 - 5:33am

The numbers are out, and Texas once again topped the list for the most lightning strikes out of any state in the United States. Within the state, Central Texas is one of the areas with higher numbers of lightning strike events. Adults, if you are thinking you might attend our April or May campouts, please take half an hour to complete the Hazardous Weather training course on Scouting.org so that you can help us be vigilant about keeping Scouts safe! It takes just 30 minutes. Assistant Scoutmasters, check to see if your Hazardous Weather certification has expired! Not only is completing this training essential to following Scouting policy, but it also demonstrates your commitment to creating safe and memorable experiences for the Scouts we serve. Together, let’s ensure that every adventure is a safe adventure. Stay Prepared, Stay Safe, Stay Trained!

Here are some upcoming troop events for your consideration:

  • Parent's Committee Meeting - Tues, Apr 14 7:15 PM
  • Lumberjack Campout - Fri Apr 17-Sun Apr 19 - Please click the link to RSVP! We'd like to know who's coming, and a "no" is also helpful!
  • Swim Check Meeting - Tues Apr 21:  We will meet at Balcones Woods Pool, 11204 Alhambra Dr, Austin 78759. Completing a swim check is a rank requirement for Scouts. Any Scout or parent going to summer camp (or thinking about it), please come (swim checks are needed for camp, so this is a great time to get that done!)
  • Court of Honor - Tues Apr 28: Join us at Huffmann Hall. All new Scouts, do please come, as you will be getting your Troop 511 neckerchief that night! The whole family is welcome. We usually have potluck snacks afterwards (optional if you are busy; it only takes a few people to bring things)
  • Shooting Sport Campout - Fri May 15-Sun May 17 - Please click the link to RSVP! We'd like to know who's coming, and a "no" is also helpful!
  • Summer Camp - Sun Jun 7 - Sat Jun 13 - We hope that lots of people will be able to make summer camp this year, especially new scouts! Lost Pines offers the Eagle Quest program for New Scouts, which can help Scouts make a lot of progress on their rank requirements! If you are thinking about summer camp, be sure to start thinking about getting your Scout's camp physical signoff on the "Part C" medical form. You may be able to get your doctor to sign off on the form based on a physical in the last year, or you may need to get them a physical exam for this. Here are details about getting the Part C form

Also, did you know that you can follow the troop calendar? Click this Calendar Sync link and follow the directions to get set up. (The link can always be found in the left menu bar, near the top, under User.)

Sometimes Scouts or Parents Get Hurt ... What Next?

Posted on Mar 13 2026 - 8:37pm

Scout parents and leaders, all of us need to report any incidents or near misses in order to keep our Scouting program safe. As careful as we are, outdoor activities can be dangerous. One of the ways we keep everyone safe and keep making our program better and safer is by using incident reports. So, what kinds of incidents do we need to report?
