Welcome!

Welcome to Boy Scout Troop 511's web site.  Boy Scout Troop 511 in Austin TX is sponsored by St. Matthew's Episcopal Church, and was founded in 1972. It is one of the larger troops in Central Texas and during its existence has produced more than 125 Eagle Scouts. Feel free to look around our site and by all means shoot us an email to learn more about the exciting world of Scouting at Troop 511.

If you're interested in our troop, we encourage you to come visit us at one of our meetings.  We meet every Tuesday at 7:00 in Huffman Hall on the St. Matthews campus.  We love to have guests any time.  Some meetings are more interesting for visitors to come to, so feel free to send us email if you're wondering which night would be best for you to come and check out out Troop 511.

Troop meeting, Aug 5: orienteering at Pease Park

Posted on Aug 4 2014 - 11:27pm

The troop will meet at the Kingsbury Street (south) entrance to Pease
Park (GPS coordinates 30.280889,-97.7515).  There is construction on
the northern part of the park, so we'll avoid that area.

Meet at the long tables just inside of the park entrance.  Activity
uniforms ("class B") are fine. Given the hour of the day, bug spray
might be advisable.

Bring an orienteering compass if possible, a pencil, and a watch.

We will briefly go over the basics of compass and maps, practice
pacing, then have the scouts buddy-up and run some orienteering
missions that I'm cooking up.

This information is instructive for both those seeking First Class, as
well as the Orienteering Merit Badge.  We will have a sign-up sheet
for the latter at the meeting.  Scouts that are going to Philmont next
summer should definitely sign up.

FCE will run outdoor flag ceremonies and have an axe yard!

Come on time, get sign-offs, and have fun!

Regards,
Mr. Clarke

Annual Troop Planning Coming Soon

Posted on Apr 17 2014 - 10:26pm

We will be having the annual Troop Operations Workshop (TOW) instead of the usual PLC after the May campout on May 6th.  The TOW is the planning meeting for the next year.  Any scout who is interested in what our troop will be doing over the next year should plan on attending the meeting.  Think about what you would like our Troop to do over the next year:  What kinds of campouts do you want to go on (backpacking or car camping)? Should we introduce a few merit badges at troop meetings? Should we try and organize a mid adventure trip during the summer as well as scout camp?  What should the requirements be for those attending the mid adventure trip?  What other ideas do you have that would make our troop more interesting or challenging?

Merit Badge Counselor Training May 13th.

Posted on Apr 16 2014 - 9:37am

The merit badge counselor training class has been moved from May 6th to May 13th due to a conflict with the Troop yearly planning scheduled for the 6th.

Summer Camp (July 6-12) Signup Open

Posted on Feb 3 2014 - 9:25pm

Eagle CoH for Ryan Satterfield and Ethan Morris

Posted on Nov 7 2013 - 3:25pm

We will be conduction an Eagle Court of Honor on November 23, 2013 at 3:00pm for Ryan Satterfield and Ethan Morris. It will be held in the Sanctuary of Saint Matthews with a reception to follow in Huffman Hall. Everyone in the troop is invited to join us. If you have a younger scout who has not seen a Court of Honor for the Eagle rank this can be a great experience.
